Audrey Fok

Looking at the lives of three women in the Los Angeles area, Against the Grain is a film about the coming out experience of Asian American women in the LGBTQ community. The film explores the cultural issues that come into play when coming out amongst a predominately anti-homosexual culture. Against the Grain may be a film about coming out, but it becomes more than that as it explores the dynamics of ethnic cultures as well as the immigrant experience as it ties into the coming out experience.

Growing up as an Asian American in the Los Angeles area, Audrey Fok has a special understanding and connection to the Asian American LGBTQ community. In addition, Audrey has always had a passion for the filmic arts. Named after the famed actress Audrey Hepburn, Audrey has always known that she wanted to make films for the rest of her life. She received her BA in anthropology and film and media studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. In addition, she received her MA in visual anthropology at the University of Southern California in 2012. Currently, Audrey works for a creative agency that specializes in documentary filmmaking and advertising.
